Probably the number one value that I would look for in a 1904labs employee is that they don’t answer, “I don’t know.” They answer: yes, no, or I’ll find out. If you’re driven, and you are humble, and willing to learn from those around you, you’ll find a very welcoming environment, and one that encourages your personal and professional growth. Some companies, they want your focus, but here they were more looking for a well-rounded employee who had the innovation skills, the ambition to pursue other things, and to facilitate his own learning. Someone who doesn’t need a ton of direction in order to get something accomplished and also somebody who’s willing to admit their shortcomings and is always wanting to learn.
They don’t let the fact that they don’t have a requirement stand in their way. They don’t let the fact that they don’t know what the right tool is stand in the way. They go and find the right tool, or the right requirement, and they implement it correctly. You get your hours in, you kind of come and go as you need to, and you’re accountable to your team to get everything done. And I like that. Having implemented something, they’re willing and able to listen to the client’s feedback and not be insulted if they miss the target, but to see that as an ability to go forward and do it right.
