Innovation Showcase: From Playing The Game to Creating One

Our Innovation Hours Program gives our employees time to work on their own passion projects every week. As part of this series, we are highlighting how individuals are working on themselves, working on their startups, working on their community, and working on the labs.

The Idle Game

We recently held an Innovation Showcase during Innovation Hours where employees could discuss and share their projects. Matthew “Coach” Carter, DevOps Engineer at the labs since November 2019,  is in the early development stage of Guild Simulator — an idle video game. An idle video game (a.k.a clicker, tap, or incremental game) is a simple game that doesn’t require constant input from the user and often consists of simple actions such clicking repeatedly on the screen. Matt created Guild Simulator with the intention to combine two things he loves — video games and making things.

In Guild Simulator, the player is in-charge of organizing fantasy RPG (role playing game) characters into parties and sending them out to raid dungeons. The characters go fight monsters in these dungeons, bring back loot, and level up — allowing you to get more characters in your guild. The more characters you have in your guild, the bigger the dungeon you’re allowed to raid — that’s the game play loop.
